After we just got over Amy Poehler and Will Arnett’s 2016 split, America’s new reigning comedy power couple publicly announced their legal separation…leaving us all staring blankly into the distance and wondering if love is truly (finally?) dead.
Sunday night, Anna Faris and Chris Pratt took to Instagram and Facebook respectively to announce the news of the split to their fans. The couple displayed a united front in posting the same message on the different social media platforms, echoing their shared wish to keep the matter as private as possible out of respect for their family.
Faris, 40, and Pratt, 38 met in 2007 while both filming the romantic comedy Take Me Home Tonight. At the time, Faris was married to the “Raising Dad” actor, Ben Idra.
News of the split follows a series of cheating allegations hurled at Pratt, the newly-slimmed down leading man of two major film franchises, Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World. Pratt was rumored to be linked to his Passengers co-star Jennifer Lawrence as well as his Jurassic World co-star Bryce Dallas Howard.
While Pratt has not publicly confirmed or denied the allegations, the tabloid reports of his infidelity proved to be unsettling for Faris, as she was often home caring for their son Jack (age 4) while Pratt was away filming on location for months at a time. The Scary Movie actress revealed in her eponymous podcast Anna Faris Is Unqualified just how devastating the amount of time spent apart can be to a marriage.
“I take pride in how great my relationship is with Chris, but having said that, of course, in this crazy world where he’s off doing movies and I’m in L.A. raising our child, of course I’m going to feel vulnerable, like any normal human would. It did make me feel like, “Is public perception—even though it’s false—is there a grain of something?’ It made me feel incredibly insecure.”
The Twitterverse took news of the golden couple’s split particularly hard, as the two frequently shared candid snaps of their once-happy family life with their millions of combined followers. Pratt’s statement that the two had “tried hard for a long time” caused fans to wildly speculate as to exactly when the tension between the two escalated, as they were not strangers to red-carpet PDA and sweet interview shoutouts.
I would be less upset if my own parents said they were getting divorced #chrisprattandannafaris

Here’s to hoping that this legal separation will end in reconciliation, but we won’t get our hopes up. Our shriveled, black hearts can’t take another blow.
